A U.S.-based association representing ATM manufacturers and financial institutions that use ATMs has absorbed a European counterpart focusing on security for the industry.
The ATM Industry Association recently announced it had merged with the ATM Security Association for Enhanced Technology, which is based in the Netherlands. Under the terms of the agreement, the latter group will become part of the Sioux Falls, S.D.-based ATMIA.
"I'm delighted and excited that we have joined forces to fight together the threats of globally operative criminal groups and fraudsters." ATMIA CEO Mike Lee said in a statement. "One cannot just focus on one region anymore. Those days are over. The fight is global and that is why we will build a global security platform in the coming months and years."
The ATM Security Association will retain its name and logo but fall under the governance and ownership of ATMIA. The next steps for the European group include completing the transfer of assets, setting up a new global ATM security portal and delivering several agreed-upon benefits to members.
ATMIA represents roughly 11,000 members from more than 650 participating companies in 67 countries.
